Alpine flavours to savour

Culinary highlights in Tyrol

Authentic Alpine cuisine with a modern twist: Take a delicious journey through the culinary highlights of our region – from hearty mountain classics to refined gourmet delights.

A visit to Hotel Singer in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena is a feast for all the senses. Here, it’s not just the stunning scenery that speaks to the soul – it’s also the cuisine, which leaves a lasting impression on the palate. Nestled in the heart of this stunning Alpine region, you’ll find a culinary landscape where tradition, quality, and creativity come together in perfect harmony.

Berwang and the surrounding area are known for their honest, down-to-earth Tyrolean cooking, where centuries-old recipes meet contemporary lightness. Classic dishes like hearty Tiroler Gröstl – a pan-fried mix of potatoes, onions, and beef or pork, topped with a fried egg – or cheesy Kasspatzln, handmade pasta tossed with strong cheese and crispy onions, bring comfort and depth of flavour. And then there’s Graukäse, a tangy, matured grey cheese, prized for its bold character and typically enjoyed with dark bread. Served with warmth and hospitality in rustic mountain huts, these dishes are more than food – they’re part of the Tyrolean way of life.

But it’s not just the traditional fare that shines. Today, chefs across the region – including in our very own restaurant – are breathing new life into local ingredients. Game from the nearby forests, fresh fish from crystal-clear mountain lakes, and herbs from the Alpine pastures are prepared with finesse and a deep respect for their origins. The result? Dishes that don’t just hint at their Alpine roots – they celebrate them in every bite.

To finish on a sweet note, indulge in beloved Tyrolean desserts like fluffy Kaiserschmarrn, a shredded pancake dusted with powdered sugar and served with fruit compote; crisp, spiral-shaped Strauben, traditionally deep-fried and sprinkled with sugar; or soft, juicy Marillenknödel, apricot-filled dumplings made with a delicate dough and rolled in buttery breadcrumbs. These nostalgic treats bring comfort and delight in equal measure, satisfying even the most discerning sweet tooth.

Our tip: Pair your culinary discoveries with a glass of fine Austrian wine or a noble drop from a local distillery – for a sensory experience that lingers long after the last bite.
